it is easy to describe success in terms of money, fame and reputation. but i believe that success is not external. i believe that success comes from within. my definition of success is to be true to yourself, and be true to others. that means, that you must cherish your personal ideal even in the face of adversity. i also believe that success is not discriminatory. success is not restricted to such a class of people, in fact, it may be achieved by any person irrespective of his race, creed, gender and economic background. a good example of success is that of beethoven. he is one of the worlds most famous composers, yet he was deaf. he could not hear the majestic pieces of music that he created. yet, in the face of this adversity, he was able to maintain his ideals--that of composing music.

to exemplify what success means to me, i pose a question to all of you. what brings us together here today? i believe that it is the beauty of the spoken word. the effect of pause and the sound of rhetoric are unique to the spoken word. i believe the beauty of the spoken word is even stronger for those who have difficulty in expressing themselves. these people are reclusive and had their emotions hidden within them. i once went to australia and i saw two pictures, once was drawn by a normal child, the other was drawn by a child with social inhibitions. the picture drawn by the normal child was simple and plain. the other was life-like, full of details and imagination. what this shows is that these are ideas, emotions and feelings that are locked internally in these children.

my ideal is to be the key, spreading the beauty of the spoken words to these children. these children have been neglected, but i feel that i can and should help these children to find themselves and be able to express themselves.

i realize that this is a difficult task, and there are many obstacles on the way. but i believe in my ideals and i will stick to them--even in the face of adversity. we should never have a premature abortion of ideals--let the child, let our ideals, stand the challenge. for a life without ideals is not living.

那是一个伟大的男孩，正如他的名字一样。童年时期，因为一场突如其来的意外，刘伟失去了双臂。如同被命运的绳索缚住双翅的雏鹰，他恐惧过，迷茫过，彷徨过。但他明白，生活还是要继续。在病友的帮助下，刘伟渐渐振作起来，通过长时间的努力，奇迹般地成为了一名出色的残疾人游泳运动员。

当刘伟把目光放在08年北京残奥会的金牌上时，命运却又无情地开起了玩笑——刘伟患上了疾病，他无法再进行剧烈运动。人们都开始叹息生命的悲哀，他却没有就此放弃，他说“我的人生只有两条路，要么赶紧死，要么精彩的活着。”毫无疑问地，刘伟愿意选择后者，他认为自己至少还活着，而活着，就有希望。于是，他长出了梦想的左翼——“乐观”。

刘伟的决定令人震惊，他选择了弹钢琴，那常人用灵活的十指来演奏的钢琴。脚趾的宽度大于琴键，他便把脚趾立起来，用侧面敲击音符。无法像手指那样张开，弹出和弦，他便不断练习，用速度来弥补不足。一个个日日夜夜，不知他付出了多少汗水与血水，于是，他生出了梦想的右翼——“坚强”。

different people have different ideas about success; cause people’s hopes and ideas vary from one another. but i am sure every success is dear to everybody, cause it is not easy to come by, cause in the process of our striving for success, we got both our body and soul tempted, meanwhile we are enlightened by the most valuable qualities of human beings: love, patient, courage and sense of responsibility. these are the best treasures. so now i am very proud that i have this opportunity to stand here speaking to all of you. it is my success, cause i raise up to challenge my hope.

大发明家爱迪生为了研究出理想的白炽灯线，进行研究了上千次的试验，几乎所有的金属都被他试验过了。正是因为他能持之以恒，而不是浅尝辄止，五分钟热度，所以才能成为世人敬仰的“发明大王”。法国著名微生物学家巴斯德曾经说过：“告诉你使我达到目标的奥秘吧！我惟一的力量是我的坚持精神。”成功等于坚持，这经验之谈概括了多少名人的成功奥秘啊！

然而，我们有些同学，当然也包括我，又是怎样呢？一拿到题目想一下，“不会做”，便丢在一边。当真不会做吗？其实不然，答案往往就在眼皮底下。若再坚持一下就有做出的可能，可往往就缺乏这样的恒心，功亏一篑。像这样在学习上不知难而进，一遇到困难就畏缩不前，缺乏恒心，怎会取得理想的成绩呢？也有很多人三天打鱼两天晒网，不像穿石的滴水那样有个专一的目标。他们偶尔一想：练练画如何？有一门特长该多好！于是堂而皇之地拿出画笔画了起来。时隔不久，隔壁悠扬的笛声吹进耳中，咦，我何不也试试？要真吹好了那可真帅！于是又丢下那刚开了个头的画，去“研究”笛子去了。过不久，抬眼看到别人在打球，对，应该锻炼锻炼！于是又撒手去锻炼他的身体去了。同学们，你说他到底学到了什么呢？试问这样用心浮躁，见异思迁，一生会有成功吗？

“贵有恒，何必三更起，五更睡；最无益，只怕一日曝，十日寒。”无论何事，要成功就要有恒心，要专注，不然是不会成功的。“滴水”只有持之以恒地朝着一个目标才会“穿透顽石”，倘若漫无目的地抛洒，就连张薄纸也穿不透。这也正像炼钢的炉，若在强热时突然冷却，那么一炉本可以炼成纯钢的铁水就会变成废铁。

福楼拜说得好：“年轻人，你永远不要忘记……才华就是长期的坚持不懈。你努力干吧！”

大家好。今天我演讲的题目是“不抛弃、不放弃”。

大家都看过《士兵突击》吧？其中有一个精神，就是钢七连的连魂：不抛弃、不放弃。可以说完全体现在了许三多身上。无论是对朝夕相处的的战友，还是面对一次次任务和生活的中各种挑战，我们都会深深感触到在他身上有一种十头牛也拽不动的向前冲的劲头！有的人把这称之为激情、信念甚至个性，激情也好，信念也好，乃至许三多的个性也好，都不能单一地概括他。虽然他简单，但他的简单，其实是一种内在品性的综合与融合后的智与勇，而这种智与勇总是崩发得恰到好处——适时适处地体现出了：不抛弃、不放弃！

不抛弃、不放弃，更是人自己与自己的较量：思想、毅力、取舍……相反，有的人是看不到自己的能力，有的人怀疑自己的潜质，有人随便界定自己的极限，于是，更多的放弃出现了。可悲的是，这样的人，也许比许三多有更多生存技巧、更圆滑的为人处世规则，甚至更强劲的能力素质，但他们往往连失败的资格都主动放弃了，因为在假定的失败之前，他们早已被自己吓倒了、打败了。还是那句话说的好：人最大的敌人是自己。我不得不肯定地说，许三多首先是不断地战胜了自己，同时也坚定了自己。他就象那只破茧的'蝴蝶，只有勇于破除自已身上厚重的茧壳，他才能看见阳光，闻到花香。尽管许三多在起初被许多人都瞧不起，也经历了比别人更多的摔打、疼痛、孤独和忧郁。但在这当中，他一次也没有真正放弃过自己，始终很好地保留一种我们看不见的“底线”，所以，付出更多的他必然得到了更多。

许三多的经历映证了一句谚语：一千次雷霆霹雳才能换来一次彩虹。尽管彩虹的出现时间很短，却是最眩目也是最有意义的光彩。我们的学习也是一样，再苦在累，只要秉承“不抛弃，不放弃”的精神，就一定有出头之日！我的演讲完毕，谢谢大家！
